A brushtail possum thumping across the ceiling at 2 am is one of the most common calls from Altona and Seaholme. Possums are protected in Victoria, so the job is done as trapping, release on the same property after dusk, and sealing the way in.
We inspect the roofline to find the entry, which is usually a lifted tile, a gap at the gutter line or a broken vent, set a cage trap in the roof void, and come back to release the possum and close the gap. Proofing is the part that matters; without it the same possum or the next one is back within the week. We can also install a nest box on a tree so the possum has somewhere to go.
