Bed bugs arrive in luggage and second-hand furniture and settle in the seams of mattresses, bed frames, headboards, skirting boards and behind picture frames. The tell-tale signs are bites in lines on the arms and legs, dark spotting on sheets and a sweet musty smell in a heavily used room.
Treatment is done over two visits about a fortnight apart, because eggs hatch after the first treatment. We treat the bed, frame and surrounding furniture, the skirtings and carpet edges, and any adjoining rooms. Before we come you get a written prep list: bedding washed hot, clutter cleared, drawers emptied. The prep is half the job.
